DCN S4200-10P-PL-SI - managed 8-port PoE+ switch with SFP uplinks

The DCN S4200-10P-PL-SI is a managed L2 switch with 8 Gigabit RJ45 PoE+ ports and 2 SFP slots for optical modules. The 20 Gbps switching fabric and 15 Mpps throughput deliver full non-blocking performance on all ports at once. The 70 W PoE budget powers IP cameras, Wi-Fi access points and VoIP phones directly over the network cable. A device for surveillance installers, Wi-Fi network integrators and administrators of small office networks who need a reliable, silent (passive cooling) switch with CLI and Web GUI management.

How many devices does the 70 W budget power?

The 70 W PoE budget of the S4200-10P-PL-SI is enough to power about 4-6 standard-class IP cameras (drawing ~10-15 W each) or 4-5 Wi-Fi access points (~12-15 W). VoIP phones usually draw 4-7 W, so you can power over a dozen of them. The 802.3at (PoE+) standard delivers up to 30 W on a single port, enough for PTZ cameras with a chassis heater or Wi-Fi 6 APs — with the caveat that the total draw must not exceed the 70 W overall budget.

Proven manufacturer, support in Europe

DCN (Digital China Networks) is a recognised manufacturer of professional network solutions. The European branch DCN Europe belongs to the Salumanus group - owner of the Fibermarkt store - so the warranty is handled within the EU and technical support is provided with no language barrier. The switch is fully compliant with the IEEE 802.3 (Ethernet), IEEE 802.3af/at (PoE/PoE+) and IEEE 802.1Q (VLAN) standards, which guarantees interoperation with other manufacturers' devices.

Key features

  • 8x Gigabit RJ45 PoE+ - each port with 802.3af/at power up to 30 W, 70 W total budget
  • 2x SFP 100/1000 - slots for optical modules for fibre uplinks and linking cabinets
  • 20 Gbps fabric, 15 Mpps - full non-blocking performance on all ports
  • 8K MAC table - support for extensive networks with many devices
  • 4K VLAN (802.1Q) - traffic segmentation, isolating surveillance from the office network
  • Link Aggregation (LACP) - bundling ports into a single higher-throughput channel
  • ACL 1536 entries - traffic filtering and security policies at port level
  • Jumbo Frame 10K - efficient transfer of large data packets
  • 16 IP interfaces (VLAN) - routing between VLAN networks at the L2+ layer
  • Passive cooling - no fan, silent operation in an office or reception
  • CLI + Web GUI management - syntax close to Cisco IOS and an intuitive web panel
  • 100-240 V AC power - universal mains power, draw up to 80 W

Applications - for installers, integrators and administrators

IP surveillance: power and transmission from 8 IP cameras over a single UTP cable - with no separate power supplies. The SFP uplink carries the image over fibre to the NVR recorder in the server room.

Wi-Fi networks: power for 802.3at access points (Wi-Fi 5/6) directly from the switch. The VLAN separates the guest network from the corporate one, and link aggregation increases throughput to the core.

Small offices and shops: a silent, passively cooled switch for the network cabinet. It powers VoIP phones, terminals and network printers, serving a whole floor's infrastructure.

Fibre aggregation: two SFP slots let you connect the switch to the backbone network via optical modules over distances from a few hundred metres to several dozen kilometres.

Management like on Cisco switches - familiar CLI

The DCN S4200-10P-PL-SI offers a command-line interface (CLI) with syntax very close to Cisco IOS. An administrator familiar with Cisco equipment configures VLANs, trunk/access ports and link aggregation without learning a new command language - the same commands work almost identically.

  # Create a VLAN for IP cameras
Switch# configure terminal
Switch# vlan 10
Switch# name MONITORING
  # Access port for the camera
Switch# interface ethernet 1/0/1
Switch# switchport mode access
Switch# switchport access vlan 10
  # Uplink trunk on the SFP port
Switch# interface ethernet 1/0/9
Switch# switchport mode trunk
  # Link Aggregation LACP
Switch# interface ethernet 1/0/9-10
Switch# channel-group 1 mode active
  # Verify the configuration
Switch# show vlan
Switch# show interface status
Switch# show port-channel

Example syntax similar to Cisco IOS. You can do the same in the Web GUI without the CLI.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

How many IP cameras does the 70 W PoE budget power?

With a typical draw of 10-15 W per camera you power about 4-6 IP cameras at once. PTZ cameras with a heater draw more (up to 30 W on the 802.3at port), so their number will be lower. The total draw of all devices cannot exceed 70 W.

Do the SFP slots support 1G optical modules?

Yes. Both SFP slots support 100/1000 Base-X optical modules. You can use single- or multimode modules for fibre links over various distances, as well as DAC modules for linking cabinets in the server room.

Does the switch have a fan? Is it noisy?

No, the S4200-10P-PL-SI uses passive cooling - it has no fan. It runs completely silently and is therefore suitable for a reception, office or room where noise is an issue.

Can I manage it like a Cisco switch?

Yes. The CLI has syntax very close to Cisco IOS - commands such as vlan, switchport, channel-group or show work almost identically. A Web GUI panel is also available if you prefer configuration in the browser.

How does the warranty work and where is support provided?

The warranty is handled within the EU by DCN Europe (Salumanus group, owner of Fibermarkt). You get technical support without dealing with a foreign manufacturer.

Does the switch support VLAN and routing between networks?

Yes. It supports up to 4K VLANs compliant with 802.1Q and up to 16 IP interfaces (VLAN), allowing basic routing between networks at the L2+ layer. That is enough to separate surveillance, guest and corporate networks.
