What is a transceiver? 

Transceivers are essential components of every fiber optic network. They enable fiber optic transmission through one strand of fiber (simplex) or a pair of strands (duplex), as well as via CWDM and DWDM systems. They operate in either single or multi mode.

The SFP transceivers covert electrical signal to optical and vice versa. Basic module types are: GBIC, SFP, SFP+, XFP, SFP GPON, QSFP+, QSFP28, CFP, CFP2, CFP4, older module types: GBIC, XENPAK, X2. They support data rates from 100Mb/s up to 100G 

OPTICAL TRANSCEIVERS - APPLICATION 

Transceivers are compatible with switches, converters, routers, servers and network interface cards. They are designed as Hot-pluggable/Hot-swappable devices (ones that can be replaced or disconnected while the device is running). SFP transceivers have a built-in Digital Diagnostics Module used to detect transmission malfunctions, a handy way to identify any network issues. Their operating temperature is –5C up to 70C. They ensure a stable and reliable base of the networking infrastructure.
