DCN S5750E-28F-SI-D — fibre L3 switch for aggregating a carrier network

The DCN S5750E-28F-SI-D is a managed layer-3 switch with 24 fibre ports (16× SFP 1G + 8× Combo) and 4 SFP+ 10G ports for uplinks. The 128 Gbps switching fabric and 95 Mpps throughput ensure non-blocking packet switching, and a full routing stack — static, RIP, OSPF and BGP for IPv4/IPv6 — lets you build extensive networks with no additional router. A model dedicated to operators, ISPs and 10G backbone installations in businesses and data centres.

10G performance for aggregation and the network core

Four SFP+ 1/10G ports form high-throughput uplinks to the core or neighbouring aggregation switches, and the 24 lower fibre ports aggregate subscriber access and FTTx networks. The non-blocking 128 Gbps fabric and 95 Mpps forwarding rate handle the full load of all ports at once, and VSF stacking (Virtual Switch Framework) combines several devices into a single logical unit managed from one IP address. A 16K-entry MAC table and support for 4K VLANs and 1024 VLAN interfaces let you segment large multi-service environments.

Proven manufacturer, support in Europe

DCN (Digital China Networks) is a recognised manufacturer of carrier and corporate switches. The European branch DCN Europe belongs to the Salumanus group — owner of the Fibermarkt store — so the warranty is handled within the EU and technical support is provided with no language barrier. The device complies with the IEEE 802.3 and 802.1Q standards, which guarantees full interoperation with other manufacturers' network equipment.

Key features

  • 28 ports in a 1U metal chassis — 16× SFP 1G, 8× Combo (RJ45/SFP), 4× SFP+ 1/10G for uplinks.
  • Non-blocking 128 Gbps fabric — full throughput of all ports with no packet loss.
  • 95 Mpps forwarding capacity — handling traffic at full load and with small frames.
  • Full L3 IPv4/IPv6 routing — static routes, RIP v1/v2/RIPng, OSPF v2/v3, BGP/BGP4+.
  • VSF stacking — multiple switches as a single logical device with one IP.
  • 4K VLANs and 1024 VLAN interfaces — segmentation and inter-network routing in large installations.
  • 16K MAC table, 4K ARP — support for extensive, multi-service environments.
  • QoS with 8 priority queues per port — prioritisation of voice, video and critical data.
  • Hardware ACL lists — filtering and access control with no CPU load.
  • Power redundancy (RPS 48V DC) — an additional power input for operational continuity.
  • Jumbo frames up to 10K — efficient transfer of large data blocks.
  • CLI, Web GUI, SNMP management — full local and remote control via the OOB port.

Applications — for installers, integrators and administrators

Carrier and ISP networks: aggregation of FTTx subscriber links and distribution of traffic with 10G uplinks to the core. Full BGP/OSPF lets you build multi-node networks with no separate edge router.

Core and aggregation of the corporate network: a central switch collecting the traffic of access switches, with routing between VLANs and prioritisation of critical services (VoIP, video conferencing).

Data centres and server rooms: aggregation of fibre links of servers and arrays, redundant 10G uplinks and VSF stacking for high availability.

Campuses and multi-building networks: linking buildings over fibre, VLAN segmentation for departments and L3 routing between subnets from a single device.

Management like on Cisco switches — familiar CLI

DCN provides a command line in the Cisco IOS style. An administrator familiar with Cisco equipment configures the S5750E-28F-SI-D without learning a new syntax — the same modes, the same VLAN, routing and diagnostic commands. You do all this in the graphical Web GUI too.

Switch# configure terminal
  # Create and name a VLAN
Switch(config)# vlan 10
Switch(config-vlan)# name SERVERS
Switch(config-vlan)# exit
  # Assign the SFP port to the VLAN
Switch(config)# interface ethernet 1/0/1
Switch(config-if)# switchport access vlan 10
Switch(config-if)# exit
  # L3 interface and IP address on the VLAN
Switch(config)# interface vlan 10
Switch(config-if)# ip address 10.0.10.1 255.255.255.0
Switch(config-if)# exit
  # Static route and dynamic OSPF routing
Switch(config)# ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 10.0.10.254
Switch(config)# router ospf 1
Switch(config-router)# network 10.0.10.0 0.0.0.255 area 0
Switch(config-router)# end
  # Verify the routing table
Switch# show ip route

Example syntax similar to Cisco IOS. You can do the same in the Web GUI without the CLI.

Need more ports? The whole S5750E series

The S5750E series comprises fibre L3 switches with various port counts — from 28-port models to 52-port variants for large aggregation nodes. They all share the full routing stack, the 10G fabric and VSF stacking.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Does the S5750E-28F-SI-D support OSPF and BGP routing?

Yes. It is a full layer-3 switch supporting static routes, RIP v1/v2 and RIPng, OSPF v2/v3 and BGP/BGP4+ for IPv4 and IPv6. You can build multi-node networks with no separate router.

How many fibre ports does this switch have?

24 fibre ports in total: 16× dedicated SFP 1G slots and 8× Combo ports (RJ45 or SFP, your choice). Plus 4 SFP+ 1/10G ports intended for uplinks.

Which optical modules fit the SFP and SFP+ ports?

The 1G ports accept SFP optical modules (100/1000Base-X), the uplink ports SFP+ 10G optical modules. In the Fibermarkt range we choose the DCN optical modules suited to the range and fibre type.

Can I stack several switches?

Yes, the device supports VSF stacking (Virtual Switch Framework). Several switches then work as a single logical device managed from one IP address, which simplifies administration and increases availability.

Is the configuration like Cisco hardware?

Yes. DCN offers a Cisco IOS-style CLI — the same modes and commands for VLAN, routing and diagnostics. A Cisco administrator configures the device with no new syntax. A graphical Web GUI is also available.

How do warranty and technical support work?

The warranty is handled within the EU by DCN Europe (Salumanus group, owner of Fibermarkt). Technical support is provided with no language barrier — we help with configuration, choosing optical modules and diagnostics.
