QSFP+ Transceivers

Quad Small Form-factor Pluggable +40G use four transmission channels (4x10G) supporting data rate of 40Gbit/s. QSFP Transceivers are compliant with the MSA standard (SFF-8436 standard) and all electric and electronic specifications. Their most common application is Ethernet communication protocols, switches and routers. QSFP+ modules are applicable to PCIe Express cards.

QSFP+ transceivers support OTU4 signal, which is applied in xWDM technology.

Types of QSFP+ 40G transceivers

QSFP+ 40G SR Short Range transmit data over multimode optical fibers up to 300m. SR transceivers are equipped with an MTP/MPO connector, which transmits data on four separate fibers on 850nm wavelength. Virtually, the signal is transmitted over 4 optical fibers and received on 4 optical fibers, so the final number of multimode fibers used for transmission is 8.

QSFP+ 40G LR [Long Range] transmits data over a single-mode optical fiber up to 20km, LC connector.

QSFP+ 40G PLR4 also called QSFP-4X10G-LR or QSFP+40G LR4 PSM – transmits data over a single-mode optical fiber up to 10km, MPO connector

QSFP+ 40G ER [Extended Range] transmits data over a single-mode optical fiber up to 40km link length.

LR and ER transceivers are equipped with an LC connector, which transmits signal over 4 different wavelengths [1270, 1290, 1310, 1330nm.] The transceiver itself has a built-in MUX/DEMUX module, thanks to which the signal is transmitted over only two optical fibers.

40G QSFP+ optical cables

40 QSFP AOC  [Acive Optical Cable] are two transceivers connected with a 100km optical cable. An affordable option for your server room.

40G QSFP DAC [Direct Attach Cable] are two transceivers connected with a 7m copper cable. An affordable option for short distances e.g. for server rooms.

40G Splitter [QSFP+ do 4x SFP+] is an optical or copper cable with a 40G QSFP+ interface on one end, and four SFP+ connectors on the other end. (Also known as fan or splitter cable)
