SFP+ TRANSCEIVERS

Enhanced Small Form-Factor Pluggable Transceivers are fiber optic transceivers supporting data rate from 4Gbit/s up to 32Gbit/s. The most popular form-factors support data rate of 10 Gigabit Ethernet. Another common interface is 16Gbit/s Fibre Channel.

SFP+ Transceiver is an enhanced version of the SFP transceiver and supports higher data rates, due to the development of technology and growing demand of channel capacity of devices such as switches, routers, converters, firewalls.

Parameters

Transceivers operate on multimode and single-mode optical fibers and transmit data over a either pair of optical fibers (duplex) or a single optical fiber (simplex).

The maximum distance of signal transmission (without regenerating points) that can be reached over multimode medium is 300 meters. For single-mode transceivers it is 80km.

TYPES OF SFP+ TRANSCEIVERS

Standard

Duplex-type transmission. The signal is transmitted and received over the same wavelength, but within two separate fibers, which prevents signal interferences. These transceivers operate on wavelengths of 850nm/ 1310nm /1550nm.

BiDirectional SFP+ 10G WDM

Simplex-type transmission. The transmission is sent over two different wavelengths but within a single fiber. Thanks to this technology, it is possible to reduce the number of fibers in the link.

CWDM (Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing) SFP+ 10G

Transmits data in the second and third transmission windows (1270-1610nm) in 20nm intervals allowing up to 18 channels to be transmitted. CWDM transceivers are most commonly used in xWDM systems that help optimize the number and cost of optical fibers.

DWDM (ang. Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) SFP+ 10G

DWDM SFP+ transceivers occur in two versions: 100GHz (40 transmission channels) and 50GHz (80 transmission channels). They allow transmissions ranging from 1565.5nm to 1528.77nm. Due to very short intervals between individual wavelengths (around 0.8nm), they are sorted into "channels". DWDM transceivers are most commonly used in xWDM systems that help optimize the number and cost optical fibers.

10G Twinax SFP+

Consists of two SFP+ transceivers connected with a copper cable ranging from 1 to 7m. It’s an affordable solution for short-distance links e.g. in a server room.
