As the operating temperature of an optical module changes, its optical parameters also change, which has a direct impact on transmission integrity.
To adapt an optical module to the temperatures in which it will operate, the manufacturer should:
- use temperature-compensation solutions, i.e. stable drive and supply current control.
- provide adequate heat dissipation from the device (use a heatsink and silicone gel).
For this reason, optical modules are available in two versions:
· · standard – the most common version, designed to operate at temperatures from 0 °c to 70 °c
· · industrial – used in harsh environmental conditions where the temperature variation is large, typically from -40 °c to +85 °c
